Data Mapping Considerations (Magic xpi 4.5)

When working with the Data Mapper, you should be aware of the following considerations:

• You can easily check which Sources are connected to which Destinations, and vice versa, by parking on a specific Source or Destination. If you park on a Source, all Destinations connected to this Source, and the connections themselves, are highlighted. If you park on a Destination, all connected Sources and their connections are highlighted in the same way. Alternatively, you can click on a specific connection. The Sources and Destinations linked by this connection are then highlighted.

• You can automatically connect all simple nodes in two compound nodes with the same name that contain the simple nodes with the same name. To do this, click Connect All to make the all the connections to the simple and compound nodes of the same name. Click Delete All to delete all of these connections. See also Deleting Connections.

• If you either add a condition or map a compound element, you have the option to update variables in the node's Properties pane. If you do not map any simple element under this compound, the variables are not updated.

• When you have a condition and an update expression on a compound node, the update expression is calculated first, regardless of the condition expression. This means that variables contained in the update expression will always be updated.

• When a connection is made, the Data Mapper creates a Destination element for every occurrence of any Source element in the Source data at runtime. Be sure to create valid Destinations.

• You must take the order that the mapping takes place into consideration when you carry out the mapping operation. For more information, click here.

• When your Destination is defined to work as a Call Flow operation, you must connect at least one Source field to the Destination.

• If you mouseover a specific compound Source or Destination node, a tooltip displays that node's condition (if one has been added). If you mouseover a specific simple Source or Destination node, a tooltip displays that node's calculated value (if one has been added).

• If two XML entries with the same XSD are mapped to one Destination, the values in the second XML are not transferred to the Destination.

• For Destinations that are not mapped, you can use the Expression Editor to enter a calculated value.
