Working with Magic xpi Servers (Magic xpi 3.x)

The Magic xpi Server is the heart of the integration project at deployment. It runs and manages your integration project using the ibp file.

Defining which Magic xpi Servers are required is necessary for the following reasons:

  • If the solution is on a distributed network, such as a WAN, then a Magic xpi Server will be needed at each location.

  • If the solution resides on different operating systems, then a Magic xpi Server will be required on each operating system.

  • If the solution resides on different network servers, then a Magic xpi Server will be required on each server.

  • If there are possible performance bottlenecks, then using a distributed Magic xpi Server will help reduce the bottleneck.

Servers are configured in the Topology Editor. You can have as many servers as necessary. The standard Magic xpi Server is called a performance server. It can run 35 parallel threads. You can also add additional servers with less than 35 threads. These are called peripheral servers. It is possible to deploy more than one performance server. The following are some examples for using additional servers:

  • When a performance server cannot access the application server directly.

  • When the application server is located in a remote location.
