Source Control Configuration for Magic xpi (Magic xpi 4.5)

To work with Source Control, you need to connect Magic xpi to the Source Control product that is installed on your machine. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. From the Tools menu, select Options.

  2. In the Options dialog box, click Source Control.

  3. Under Source Control, click Plug-in Selection. This section contains the following parameter:

Current source control plug-in

Select the Source Control product that is installed on your machine from the drop-down list.

  1. Under Source Control, click Environment. This section contains the following parameters for defining the Source Control behavior:

Source Control Environment Settings

Select the required preset configuration. If you change any of the default options below, this parameter will change to Custom.

Keep items checked out when checking in

Select this check box to continue working on an item after you have checked it in, without having to check it out again manually.

Checked-in item behavior

On Save

Determines the Source Control behavior when you attempt to save an item that is currently checked in. Select one of the following from the drop-down list:

  • Prompt for check out

  • Check out automatically

  • Save as: This option is not recommended.

On Edit

Determines the Source Control behavior when you attempt to edit an item that is currently checked in. Select one of the following from the drop-down list:

  • Prompt for check out

  • Prompt for exclusive checkouts: This is the recommended option.

  • Check out automatically

  • Do Nothing

Allow checked-in items to be edited

Select this check box to edit items that have not been checked out of the Source Control. This overrides the behavior defined in the On Edit field (above), and is not recommended.

Click Reset to view confirmation dialog boxes that you previously chose not to see by selecting the Don’t show this again check box.

  1. Under Source Control, click Plug-in Settings. This section contains the following parameters for identifying a solution’s or project’s source control plug-in:

Select the required preset configuration. If you change a default option below, this parameter will change to Custom.

Perform background status updates

Select this check box to automatically update the Source Control icons in the Solution Explorer when an item's status is changed.

Click Advanced to define additional Source Control plug-in settings. The available settings are determined by the plug-in that you are using.

This section also contains your user name for logging in to the Source Control plug-in.
