Setting Up the Single Sign-On Feature (Magic xpa 3.x)

Magic xpa lets you connect to IBM i without entering an OS/400 user profile and password. By using Single Sign-on, you can sign on once to a network server and automatically access IBM i from your Magic xpa program.

Use the Host Management program in Windows to set up the Single Sign-on options in Windows and IBM i. To do this, click Start > Programs > [Magic xpa version] > IBM i Add-Ons > IBM i Host Library management. The Host Library dialog box appears.

Configuring the Host Library Single Sign-On (SSO) Feature

Select the Single Sign-On Host Configuration option from the Host Management program. This option enables the SSO settings in the IBM i Host library.

The Activate Single Sign On field is set by default to N. You should change this to Y. In this dialog box, it is also possible to define specific time periods during which signing on is permitted. When you have defined the SSO Configuration parameters, click OK.

There are two ways to use this feature in Magic xpa.

Windows Logon Option

This option lets you open a connection on IBM i using your Windows user and password. Here are the steps to define this option:

  1. Select the Single Sign-On Install Windows Components option from the Host Management program.

  2. Verify that your Windows user and password are defined on the IBM i server.

  3. Define an IBM i database entry in Magic xpa without an IBM i user and password.

  4. Connect to IBM i with the defined database using APG or UDP/UDF functions.

IBM i Logon Option

This option lets you sign on to IBM i from your Windows session once only, without needing to enter your IBM i user and password for consecutive connections to IBM i. Here are the steps to define this option:

  1. Select the Single Sign-On Windows Components option from the Host Management program.

  2. Define an IBM i database entry in Magic xpa with an IBM i user and password. Make sure that the IBM i user and password are different from your Windows user and password.

  3. Connect to IBM i with the defined database using APG or UDP/UDF functions.

  4. Remove the IBM i user and password from the IBM i database.

  5. Close Magic xpa.

  6. Start Magic xpa.

  7. Connect to IBM i with the defined database using APG or UDP/UDF functions.
