Mapping Using the Expression Editor (Magic xpi 3.x)
In addition to the standard method of using connecting lines, you can also use an expression that returns the Destination element data. The expression can use variables and functions as well as simple elements of the Source that are connected to the Destination element. The expression can also use the existing Destination element’s value if there is such a value.
The following are situations where you would use calculated values:
-
To enter a value for a simple element that is not connected to a Source.
-
To use manipulated Source data that is connected in the Data Mapper.
-
To combine a number of Sources into one formula that will set the Destination’s value.
-
To convert data using the Magic xpi Convert function and Magic xpi Data Converter Repository.
To use the Expression Editor to map data:
-
Double-click the Destination node (or right-click and then select Properties) to open the Node Properties dialog box.
-
In the Calculated Value field, click to open the Expression Editor. Use this dialog box to enter an expression or a fixed value. You can select functions, mathematical and logical signs, variables and connected nodes.
-
Click Verify to check that the result returned from the expression matches the data type defined for the node.
