Magic xpa Gateway Logs for Clients on IBM i (Magic xpa 3.x)
When working with Magic xpa client gateways, a job process is started under the MAGIC subsystem (TCP/IP) on IBM i. Each instance of the Magic xpa client has a separate job, named MGCLIENT. A Magic xpa job can be identified by the Status column in the WRKACTJOB screen. The Status column also shows the MGCLIENT job’s Time Wait (TIMW) duration.
When an IBM i application does not respond or when you receive an error message:
-
You should go to IBM i and check the Magic xpa log file for the current MGCLIENT job.
-
Enter the WRKACTJOB command to view all existing jobs on IBM i.
Alternatively, search for Magic xpa jobs only by entering WRKACTJOB SBS(MAGIC).
-
Enter the Option 2, Change, command to view the job details.
Alternatively, there is an option to change multiple jobs by specifying Option 2 for all desired jobs, typing the value Log(4 0 *SECLVL) and then pressing Enter.
-
You can use the Change Job command to change the Log level of the current job. The IBM i default value is None.
-
Click F10 to change the log level and then Page Up to display the Change Job screen.
Note: Magic xpa uses JOBD(QDFTJOBD) , which has a Job Description and the default Message Logging level is (4 0 *NOLIST)
Changing the User JOBD or QDFTJOBD to (4 0 *MSG) or (4 0 *SECLVL) will change the default Logging level for all of the jobs that start with this Job Description.
-
After changing the job, you should verify the updated log values by viewing the job log.
