Importing Resources and Services (Magic xpi 4.6)

Magic xpi enables you to import resources and services that you previously created and saved in other projects. There are two different ways of executing the importation. You can either overwrite the existing content contained in the Resources or Services section of the Settings dialog box, or you can merge selected resources or services to these repositories.

To overwrite a resource or a service:

  1. In the Resources or Services section of the Settings dialog box, click Load. Either the Load Resources or the Load Services dialog box opens.

  2. In the Load Resources or Load Services dialog box, click next to the File Name field to select the required resource or service XML file. You cannot enter the resource or service manually. The resources or services contained in the file are shown in a tree view, in the Select Resource Entries or Select Service Entries pane, and are all selected by default. When you park on these entries, their details will be displayed to the right of the tree.

  1. In the Operation drop-down list, select Overwrite.

  1. After you select the XML, click OK in the Load Resources or Load Services dialog box. This overwrites the current resource settings with those contained in the new resource file.

To merge a resource or a service:

The resources or services contained in the file are shown in a tree view, in the Select Resource Entries or Select Service Entries pane, and you can select which resources and services you want to import (merge). When you park on these entries, their details will be displayed to the right of the tree.

  3. In the Operation drop-down list, select Merge.

  1. Confirm the load request by clicking OK. If there are duplicate entries in any of the selected tree nodes, the Duplicate Resource Entries or Duplicate Service Entries dialog box opens. This contains a list of all the duplicate resource or service entries. Here, you should select one of the following options:

  • Overwrite: Check this box to change the selected existing resource or service entry to the newly-loaded resource or service entry.

  • Create As: This enables you to load the duplicate entries into the existing Resources section or Services section, with a new resource or service entry name. Enter the required new name in the Create As column, alongside the relevant service or resource name. This is disabled if the Overwrite check box (above) is selected.

Note:

Sometimes, an Overwrite check box may not appear alongside a resource or service name in the Duplicate Resource Entries or Duplicate Service Entries dialog box. This occurs when the importation procedure recognizes a resource or service with a duplicate name but of a different resource or service type.

  1. Click OK in the Duplicate Resource Entries or Duplicate Service Entries dialog box to confirm the duplicate handling definitions and to start the loading (merging) process.

Alternatively, click Cancel to terminate the duplicate handling process and to return to the Load Resources or Load Services dialog box.

Note:

You cannot import resources and services that work with files other than the resources.xml file and the services.xml file. In such cases, you must make sure that you manually copy these other files to where they are needed.

The import process only adds the data that is relevant to the existing resources.xml and services.xml files is added. Other files are not copied.
