Flow Variables (Magic xpi 3.x)

The Variable repository is a storage area that is used by the flow components to save and retrieve data items. You can use flow variables for managing flow logic. The value of the flow variable is available in the context of the flow it is defined in.

You can define flow variables with the Variables for Flow dialog box. This dialog box can be resized by parking on one of its edges, and left-clicking and dragging the cursor in the required direction of enlargement or reduction. This can be useful when you have a long list of variables and you want to be able to view them all without scrolling. The dialog box returns to its normal size when you close it and reopen it. (Since version: V3)

To define flow variables:

  1. From the Flow menu, select Variables or press Ctrl+L. This opens the Variables for Flow dialog box.

  2. Select the Flow Variable tab.

  3. Click New to activate the first empty line in the list.

  4. Define the variable's properties. For a full description of these properties, click here.

  1. When you have entered the relevant properties, click OK to add the variable and to close the dialog box.

  2. You can remove variables by clicking Delete.

  3. Click Cancel to close the dialog box without saving your newly added variables.

Note:

You should assign a unique name to each flow variable in the project. When flows share the same context (this occurs in a parent-child relationship), Magic xpi does not differentiate between flow variables with the same name even if they were defined in different flows.
