Error While Accessing Magic xpa Help (Magic xpa 4.x)
This Technical Note explains how to avoid the Action Canceled error when you access the Magic xpa help file (Mghelpw.chm) from a network location.
After you install the Windows® Security Update Number 896358, certain HTML Help features may not work as they did before. The problem occurs if you are accessing the particular .chm file from a network location.
When you open the Mghelpw.chm file from a network location, the contents pane is displayed correctly, but if you click a topic, the topic does not open in the main pane, and you receive the Action Canceled error message.
The solutions are provided below.
You can solve the problem by using one of the methods described below.
Method 1
If you uninstall the Windows® Security Update Number 896358, the .chm file will work properly.
Method 2
You can modify the ItssRestrictions registry entry to enable a specific security zone, as follows:
-
Run RegEdit.
-
Go to this folder:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions\.
-
You should create the ItssRestrictions folder if it does not already exist.
-
In this folder, create a DWORD Value called MaxAllowedZone.
-
Set the value of this DWORD to a number between 1 and 4 (see the note below).
-
Save the registry change.
Note
The default value of MaxAllowedZone is zero. This value determines how access to different zones is allowed, as explained in the table below.
You should only enable those security zones that you trust. Do not enable security zones that you are not sure about.
