Defining the Libraries as Databases (Magic xpa 3.x)

Each library on the IBM i platform should be defined as a different database in Magic xpa’s Database repository, as follows:

  1. In Magic xpa, select Options/Settings/Databases to open the Database repository.

  2. Select Edit/Create Line to create a new entry.

  3. Enter values for all of the parameters according to the definitions in the table below:

Enter any descriptive name for your library.

Data Source Type

Select DBMS.

Database Name

For an ISAM database, the name must be MAGIC in uppercase. For an SQL database, the name must be an SQL Collection/Schema Name created with the SQL/400 command CREATE SCHEMA <name>.

DBMS

Zoom to the DBMS list and select IBM i for an ISAM database and DB2/400 for an SQL database.

Location

Specify an IBM i library name created with the IBM i command CRTLIB <name>. Do not use any slashes in the library name.
