Connections (Magic xpi 4.1)
You can connect elements and resources to indicate how they work together. You can select the object you want to connect from and right-click to select the Connect option from the menu. You then select the object you want to connect to so that you can complete the connection.
You can change the properties of the connection element by right-clicking and selecting Properties to open the Connection Properties dialog box, which has these properties:
ID
An internal identifier number that is generated automatically.
Text
Enter a name for the connection element. This is not mandatory.
Name location
Click to open the Name Location dialog box. Here, you can select where to place the descriptive text for the Demarcation Area. Alternatively, select a location from the drop-down list.
Application
Click to select an application from the project's Applications List. This indicates that the connection element is handled by the application you select.
Font
Click to select a font for the text of the connection element.
Color
Click to select a color for the connection element. This is useful when you handle the results of a process check. For example, for an activity called Is the Item in Stock? you can set the connection line to be Green if it is in stock or to be Red if it is not in stock.
Line width
Enter a number to change the width of the line. A low number denotes a thin line, and higher number creates a wider line.
Line style
Select a line style from the drop-down list of available options.
Arrow direction
Select a direction for the connection arrow. The choices are Source, Target, Both, or None.
Description
Enter a description to provide information about the connection element.
Click OK to save your entries and close the dialog box. Alternatively, click Cancel to close the dialog box without saving your changes.
Note:
-
You cannot move a connection element. Connections are automatically redrawn when you move the Resource or Activity element.
-
You can delete a connection element by selecting the element, right-clicking, and selecting Delete from the menu.
