Column Repository (Magic xpa 4.x)

The Column repository contains column definition information for every column in every table. Every table has its own Column repository. To access the Column repository point to Columns in the Database repository and zoom (press F5).

The Column repository includes the following columns:

This read-only column contains an automatically generated sequential number used by Magic xpa as a column identifier.

Name

Enter a descriptive name. The name can contain upper and lowercase letters, numbers and spaces. If you intend to associate a Model with a column, you can leave the column name blank and Magic xpa automatically enters the model name. The maximum length for a Column name is 31 characters.

The actual name of the column is set in the DB Column Name property.

Model

Lets you set or break the model inheritance. For more information, see Models.

Picture

For an Alpha column, the minimum picture required is its length. In addition, you can enter other picture specifications as needed.

For a Numeric column, the minimum picture required is the number of its integer digits and, if needed, a decimal point and the number of decimal digits. You can add other picture specifications as needed.

For a Logic, Time, or Date column, you can accept the suggested picture or you can add other picture specifications as needed.

Blob items are binary objects stored, in Magic xpa, without any data interpretation. Therefore, Magic xpa cannot create a BLOB item picture.

Attribute

You can select one of the following Magic xpa data items in the Attribute column from the Attribute box or by pressing the item's accelerator key:

  • Alpha (the default)

  • Unicode

  • Numeric

  • Logical

  • Date

  • Time

  • Blob

  • OLE

  • ActiveX (Note: The ActiveX attribute is not supported)

  • .NET (for Rich Client tasks only)
