Version Control Center (Magic xpi 4.1)

The Version Control Center dialog box provides a visual way for you to keep track of the status of the various objects that comprise your project. Here, you can see the following information:

Name

Description

Status

Tells you if the object has been checked out.

Object Name

The name of a specific object.

When you park on an object that is listed in the Version Control Center dialog box, you can use the following buttons:

Button

Description

CheckOut

Click this button to check out an object. Depending on the Version Control software that is installed on your machine, you may have the option to add a comment to this action.

If you have selected an object that has already been checked out, this button is unavailable.

You can edit an object only after checking it out. Without checking out the object, you are limited to read-only access.

CheckIn

Click this button to check in an object. It is available only when you have selected an object that has previously been checked out.

When you click this button, the current copy of the object is saved as the most recent copy on the central Version Control server.

A Confirm dialog box asks you if you want to continue with the check in operation. If you select Yes, you can enter a comment in the CheckIn dialog box. This comment is mandatory. Clicking OK returns the object to an unchecked state.

Undo

The Undo Checkout option is used for releasing a checked-out object, and returning to the most recent version of the object. Unlike the CheckIn option, the current copy of the object is not saved. You can only use this operation when the object has been checked out.

If you made changes to the object while it was checked out, you will lose these changes if you execute an Undo action.

If you did not make changes to the object, Magic xpi releases the object once you confirm the action.

GLV

The Get Latest Version button is used to retrieve the most recent version of the object from the Version Control server.

When you use this option, Magic xpi replaces the object’s file on your local machine with the most recently checked in version of the object’s source file.

History

This lets you see different versions of the object. You will only be able to view the History screen if you are using either the Visual SourceSafe or PVCS Version Control products.

For both Visual SourceSafe and PVCS you can view the help (F1) for these products for descriptions of the History dialog boxes.

While you are in the History screen, you can view the history of differences by clicking the Diff button.

The History option is not available for business processes and project properties.

Details

Click this button to see general information about an object, such as its version number.

Refresh

Updates the table with the most up-to-date Version Control information.

Close

Closes the Version Control Center dialog box.
